Brief Personal Biography:

M.  G.  Noia  was born in June 1932, in a  small island called "Flores", (in English "Flowers") one of nine islands of the beautiful Azores archipelago, discovered and belonging to Portugal.  Each island has its own beauty, located  between America  and Europe. Azores have been called by visitors 'Atlantic Pearls.

At that time in Flores, seven years old would join the school for  a four years elementary school education. There  were  no other schools in the island.

After  school, Noia continued self studies as well as working as a farmer until he was  19 years old. He had to milk and feed cows and work in a mixed farm while in school.  At that time Farming was very hard in Flores; mixed products  farmers used oxen to plow the land and they started working before sun rise until after sun set.

Noia as well as his 3 brothers and four sisters had an education dream "to become high school graduates"; but at that time,  higher education  by Florentinos (the inhabitants of the  island) was only possible if  you were rich and  only  a scarce  few  had  enough money to send their children to  other islands. Noia's Another impossible dream was, after high school graduation to go to the mother country "Portugal" and join Coimbra university  for a degree course. A Coimbra wonderful song was created "Coimbra dos Meus Sonhos!, means, "Coimbra  of my Dreams!"

The nearest high school was in another beautiful island called "Fayal". You would have to travel by ship throughout the night to reach the island; the ship was available once per month and the high school was located at the city of  Horta facing Pico Island, which has the highest volcanic mount of the chipelago Pico whale hunters were internationally known  by  some people as the darest catchers of the biggest marine mammals. Horta is known as a regular stop by global small boat navigators.

The author would like to provide the background, which led to create and write  computer and  basic job skills multi tested texts using the new effective learning/teaching methodology, which simulates "On-The-Job" training techniques.

Author's Practical Writing Background:

The  practical learning background started in the  50's after the U.S.A. decided to help U.K to fight  the war maniac "Hitler". U.S.A arrived at the conclusion that Azores, more precisely known as "Lajes of Terceira Island" would be a strategic  point to fight the Germans. Indeed it was one of the world war II strategic  location for Americans. Some German Submarines, that fraught and sunk supply ships including  Canadian ships,  navigating between America and Europe, were sunk by USAF (United States Air Force) war planes in the Azores sea.

Since Noia's parents were poor, they could not afford to educate all children outside the island. Hence, Noia thought  "If  he could learn English by himself perhaps he would get a Job with USAF at Lajes Field Azores and, then he could study at night and accomplish his dream".

He found a book called "English without a Teacher" and thus  the practical learning began. The step by step book consisted  of columns of Words in English, sounds and Portuguese, then there were texts to translate from English into Portuguese and Portuguese into English.

To make the self education history shorter Noia learned English by himself, got a  job  in Lajes Field Azores, completed the  High School studies while working and took courses by correspondence from the USA and later acquired his accountant designation in Canada.

He was employed by non  appropriated funds of USAF in Lajes Field Azores. His job mandate required him to train and  prepare Operating Procedures by interpreting regulations and manuals into simple English for the Portuguese employees without specific jobs background to improve efficiency. He was then promoted to the chief accountant position.

In  1968 Noia immigrated to Canada. He was employed  by the USAF located at Goose Bay Labrador. He joined as an accountant initially and then was promoted to the chief accountant position similar  to the job he had in Azores. He was in Goose Bay  for the period 1968-1976. He continued his studies at night and graduated as the Certified Management Accountant (RIA now CMA) in 1976. The USAF closed Goose Bay operation in the summer of 1976.

So, he moved to Toronto, since his wife's family was living there. He applied for jobs but there was employment discrimination for people  over 45 years of age, and Noia was just over 45 years.

Thanks  to  the discrimination, Noia could not secure a job  for  his qualifications. These situation lead him to establish  himself as  a public accountant for small businesses; but it was very difficult for a matured non marketing professional to carry out the marketing strategies he had learned as part of his course.

Though he had many theoretical courses accomplished, He found a need to learn practical accounting and taxation methods to apply to small business. Thus he wrote practical bookkeeping  and Income tax manuals using the step by step experience acquired.

He rendered accounting services for an University of York Professor. Professor Harrison  saw the practical manuals and  suggested conversion of the excellent practical books to step by step learning texts. Professor Harrison wrote PREFACE and edited the practical bookkeeping and Income tax texts.

Thus Basic and computer multi job skills texts using a new effective learning/teaching method begun on a continuous basis and the new effective learning methodology  was researched, developed and tested.

Author's Extensive Hard Work Legacy

The author's extensive innovative work, including the creation of the group to carry out his innovative  education  and software marketing launching dream, portrayed here in the Internet  cyberspace information highway. He had always one purpose in mind "To make it  easier for people to prepare themselves with job  skills and get ready for the work force without burdening the employer with extensive training.

While  creating basic self learning and/or assisted texts and  at the outset of the new computer complex technology the  author's goal was to write step by step texts by converting complex manuals written in the traditional theoretical manner  into layman, immigrant simple language courses so that they may prepare themselves easy for modern job skills thereby keeping workers updated on most popular skills  emerging from the lst part of 20th century "Computer and Basics Literacy' using the step by step methodology 'Coach-As-Teacher'simulating "On-The-Job" training techniques.

The author's extensive researched, tested innovative method texts using layman  and college/university graduated  immigrants revealed that his applied methodology texts are also excellent  to upgrade students offering them distant self learning courses of modern job world. The author wants to finish his short profile background  with  a dedication  of his work and methodology to all workers.

DEDICATION

All  the  author's practical texts and easy learning job skills methodology, manuals and how-to books are dedicated to  workers through the ages, in particular to the young generation  who have completed their education, but have a hard time lining up a  job because the prospective employers tell them "you  have no practical on-the-job experience".

Particularly, it's dedicated to all students who take the practical courses in class, by correspondence or by self study TV or direct mail.

Hopefully, the author's books and new texts using the practical methodology will help all students who  take the job  skills courses to get a job easier since the author's  idea is to offer job skills practical courses using the efficient learning method "On-The-Job" training techniques.
